Microsoft Windows

System Tools, continued

Scan Disk

Scan disk will check and correct errors in the file allocation tables.  You can run either a Standard or Thorough scan.  The Thorough scan will do a more intensified test of the system and, needless to say, will take considerably longer than the standard option.  It might also be an idea to set the "Automatically fix errors", otherwise, the system will stop when an error is located and ask what you want to do.

Scheduled Tasks

Scheduled Tasks allows you to run programs automatically, provided your computer is on.

Common programs would be things like Virus definition updates, Disk Defragmenter, Scan Disk, etc.  In that way, you can schedule time consuming programs to run when your asleep or away from your computer.

Do not schedule programs if you don't know what they do.  You could end up with problems if you do.
